Hello gLovers!
This update has been a long time coming. Our small but dedicated team has been beavering away on our upcoming release. We’d like to express massive heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the project so far! Knowing you are out there is what fuels our passion to make our gloves a reality.
For all of you who have contributed via our shop, thank-you! We’re days away from getting the digital Streemliner of ‘Me The Machine’ out to you, as Imogen’s album has finally been released globally.
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
Since our Kickstarter campaign a lot has happened! Although we didn’t reach our original goal, we were able to go ahead with more focused development. We took on our top tier Kickstarter backers as collaborators and have been working on 15 pairs of completely bespoke Mi.Mu gloves! This group of 15 artists, musicians and technologists will become our first ever users and we will be supporting them for a three month beta testing period (December 2014-March 2015), which will also help us iron out any problems in the finished design.
During the summer we finished our ‘dev glove’ prototype, finalised and refined the design, and Mi.Mu made appearances at NIME, Ars Electronica, Wear It and Imogen Heap’s Reverb. We are now working furiously towards collaborator glove delivery in December. Small scale production is challenging, but being really hands on is what we’re all about.
Alongside this we have the vast task of creating tutorials, building demo sessions and presets, and streamlining hardware and software to make it as easy as possible for our DIY community to get to work on supported versions of our gloves.
WEBSITE, WORKSHOPS, FORUMS, FUTURE PLANS:
We will be holding a workshop for our collaborators when we launch in December. In the new year we will announce open workshops and training sessions which will be available to everyone.
To keep up to date on our progress keep an eye on our blog and register on the forums. The forum will become the main area for all glove related questions, answers and ideas, also for those interested who don’t own a pair for themselves yet.
Following the collaborator period we will know so much more and be able to give you wider production plans for Mi.Mu. This time is really crucial for us to move towards that goal, so once again, huge thanks from the whole Mi.Mu team for your support!
Lots of gLove,
Imogen, Tom, Kelly, Seb, Hannah, Adam, Rachel, Chagall.
